Deputy Chief Brian Nugent began working for Avon in 2003. During his time with the agency, Nugent worked as an uniform officer for 2 years, after which he was promoted to the rank of Detective from 2005 to 2014. In 2014, Nugent was appointed to the position of Deputy Chief of Police. Deputy Chief Nugent has served as a crisis negotiator, taser instructor, field training officer, field training coordinator, drug recognition expert, emergency vehicle operations instructor, public information officer, and is a graduate of Leadership Hendricks County 2015 as well as the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Leadership Academy class of 2016.
Prior to working for the Avon Police Department, Deputy Chief Nugent served as an officer with the Tell City, Indiana Police Department. Deputy Chief Nugent is also a graduate of Vincennes University as well as the University of Evansville where he obtained his bachelor's degree in criminal justice and sociology in 2002. Deputy Chief Nugent oversees the agency hiring and recruitment, supervises the Investigations Division, serves as our Public Information Officer, runs social media platforms, and Project Lifesaver program and other public relations details and events on behalf of the agency.
